The River
ByGarth Brooks

Joshy{Joshua}, my little "guy" was blind the last six years of his life. He was very loving.
a very peaceful, trusting and laid-back companion. He attatched himself to Benji, our other
little puppy'guy', hanging onto Benji's ear for seeing eye support while in unfamiliar territories.
He walked with his nose to the ground, sniffing his way, slowly with his tail wagging like a flag.
He was red haired with white markings, small poodle cross, with short legs.
Dwayne (my son) referred to him as a hot dog with legs.

Joshua December 1986 to April 20, 2000

He was long and lean
With short sturdy legs.
His eyes were amber and clear,
Face framed by big floppy ears.
His soft hair was curly and fine,
His fur was the color of peaches.
His trim as the color of cream.
And his tail wagged all the time.
He was happy and gay,
But his sight went away.
And the darkness slowed him down.
But he still got around,
His ears led with sound,
And his nose sniffing the ground.
So gentle and dear,
His love brought us cheer.
He was sunshine and joy,
thirteen years in our life.
This waggy tailed puppy so fine.
His name was Joshua,
But we called him Josh.
He was special, our "Little Guy".

He was Benji's little buddy, one of two puppies.
And Sadie's special friend.
He is much mourned.
And sorely missed. Everyone loved him so.

When one has not been able to see for some time
the joy of sight returning must be amazing.
Some at the Rainbow Bridge know all about that
because they have been in that position.
Others like Aurich who was the guide dog for AurichWolf my cyber sister Katie,
know well the pain of not being able to see because his mommy is legally blind.
He has welcomed Josh to the bridge along with many others
and will introduce him once more to the wonderful gift of sight.
Josh will never again fear darkness as his sight has returned
and his world is once more filled with beauty.

I'm Free

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free,
I'm following the path God had laid you see.
I took his hand when I heard him call,
I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day,
to laugh, to love, to work or play.
tasks left undone must stay that way,
I found that peace at the close of day.

If my parting has left a void,
then fill it with remembered joys.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Oh yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My lifes' been full, I savored much,
Good friend's, good times, a loved ones touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all to brief,
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and peace to thee
God wanted me now, He set me free.

Never Really Gone

The days we share with those we treasure
the ones we cling to without measure
the love makes our days so bright
and yet our loved ones pass from sight

Even though no longer here
even when we shed a tear
the memory of those happy days
still comfort us in many ways

Recalling heads we gently stroked
moments when laughs were provoked
simple pleasures moments shared
and how much that we have cared

In our memories they live on
they are never really gone
a random thought can bring a smile
we are only parted for a while

When we have reached the end of days
and time no longer holds any sway
we will be with those we love
for eternity up above.
