It was a beautiful warm day - perfect to walk on the old farmlands -
but this day was marked by an event both wonderful and sad .
Happy because it brought the joy and love of 2 wonderful puppies into a family,
sad because someone had abandoned 2 helpless puppies on the old farm.
These puppies were some of the lucky ones, unlike so many so cruely dumped
each year they were found and did not die abandoned and alone.
It would be wonderful to say it was a happily ever after story but sadly it was not to be.
The puppies new "daddy" chose not to spay / neuter or get shots. Soon there was a new litter.
These were not abandoned but sadly at the age of 7 months they were exposed to Parvo.
Papa Blue and 4 puppies died. Around the same time it became clear that Momma Cinnamon
was expecting again. The 2 surviving pups from the 1st litter and 7 surviving puppies from the
2nd litter and Cinnamon all have now had their shots and will be spayed or neutered -
they need only loving forever homes.

Below are the last pictures before the end, the day of injustice.

OUR TIME TOGETHER

On the night you came into this world we were waiting side by side.
We felt such happiness and joy and all were full of pride.
To be included at such a special time as your new life began.
We knew not then there would be another night that was prt of the plan.
As time passed and you grew we learned there was something wrong.
You weren't as healthy as the others or nearly as strong.
But we prayed that would change and that you could stay.
And that we would not have to let you run free and send you away.
Then one night as we all were together again.
The time came to let you go and our hearts filled with pain.
We shed tears for having to watch you go.
But we knew you would be happy at rainbow bridge and so.
As tears fell like rain drops from above.
And our hearts were breaking but full of love.
We said good bye and watched you leave.
And knew our hearts would have to grieve.
We won't get to see you grow up and be a big girl one day.
Nor share all the fun you would have if you could stay.
But in our hearts we know that you will not be alone .
For Daddy was there with the others to welcome you home.

Rose struggled against the soft warm nose nudging her gently,
the warm breath that brushed her fur softly. “Mommy, I’m tired – let
me be please.” She jumped fully awake in an instant as her plea was
greeted not by Momma’s soft howl but by an unfamiliar voice – a deep
throaty howl. She was surprised by the strength and energy she felt
as she jumped to her tiny feet, then realized she was nose to nose –
looking into the eyes of the largest dog she had ever seen – no, maybe
not a dog. She backed away tripping and landing with a plop on her soft
puppy behind and tumbling backwards and landing very undignifiedly on
her belly with legs going in every direction. No – not a dog, what had
Mommy Cinnamon called them – wolves? No matter – this one seemed
huge, and his fur was so white he looked silver. “Go away,” she begged,
“my mommy will protect me!”
She was not prepared for the large wolf’s response an she lay
trembling, he sat down and chuckled at her. “Ah, so you are finally
awake.” He grinned at her and she looked in disbelief – what could be
so funny? As she tried to shift to standing without looking totally clumsy
he reached over and lifted her to her feet by her scruff ever so gently.
“Hey, you are not my Mommy!” The large silver wolf grinned again. “No,
Little Rose, I am not, but I am here to help you.” Rose stamped her
tiny feet – surprised again, “How do you know my name?” she demanded.
The silver wolf tilted his head to one side and smiled – “Because, I’ve
been waiting for you.” And he began bathing her. “Hey, cut that out –
YOU ARE NOT MY MOMMY!” The larger wolf only laughed at her
bravado, she was so scared she was shaking.
Rose backed away – slowly she began to notice. Grandmomma had
been holding her in the house when she fell asleep, now she was outside
and Grandmomma was nowhere to be seen. And this place was somewhere
she had never been. She looked back at the silver wolf, emboldened
because she feared she had little to loose – “How dare you steal me!
My Momma Cinnamon will have raised such a fuss that my Momma Missy
and Grandmomma will be looking for me – will come for me. They will!”
The silver wolf just smiled, but now it seemed a sad smile. “They
know where you are little one. And you can relax, I will not hurt you.”
Rose was not at all sure how to take this stranger, but she sensed
she could trust him.
“There is a little time,” the silver wolf said, “shall I show
you around?” Time? Before what? Around what, or where? As if he had
heard her thoughts he began to answer her questions. “There is a little
time before they will be here to meet you, so there is time for me to
show you around your new home, at least part of it.” They? “Oh yes,
Daddy Blue is on his way with Angel and Mini and Rosco and Hoppy and
Good Girl. They are coming to welcome you. They will be here soon.”
Now the tiny pup could no longer contain herself – “THAT’S MEAN!!! My
daddy and little sister Angel and older brothers and sister are gone!”
“Yes they are,” the silver wolf replied, and he waited for her to
realize what he was saying. “You mean . . . ?” she asked. “Yes, little
one,” he replied. She began to look at her surroundings with new eyes
and suddenly realized – she could see! She looked up at the larger
silver wolf. Slowly he stood and moved to position her between his
large front paws. He leaned down and gently nuzzled her. “Shall I
show you around little one?”

HEARTS FEELING THE BLUES

Blues can come on us like a deep pain in our hearts
For a loved one that has gone ahead of us, and we shed silver tears
When the blues come we need to try and remember in our hearts
That blue is the colour of an angel's eyes who will hold dear Rose close
Blue is the colour of remembrance when we look into the blueset of skies
And feel the warmth of love on our face in the rays of the sun
Look into the rainbow and feel healing in the colours that light up a blue sky
As the silver tears dry on your face. You are the face of love Rose holds dear
You give her so much love in a touch, in a hug that she glows with joy
When the blues come look into the blue sky of a new morning and you will feel
Rose near. She sees into your heart and soul and knows she is loved always and forever
She sends you love in the scent of the rose.
