I Believe
By Diamond Rio

Oscar was, as I said very independent, liked to play and jump. Didn't like being groomed very much and during the day he would ignore you if you were home. But when it was time for me to come home from work he would be sit on the windowsill looking out for me. But as soon as I'd had a shower and put on my fluffy dressing gown he would come and sit on my lap and then paddle for about 10 minutes every night and then suddenly get up and go with his tail held high as if to say "That's my bit of affection for the day"

I remember when we got a TV - we hadn't had one before - and he came down the stairs and into the living room and saw it in the corner and took a double take - it was so comical. He really did have 9 lives. One of them was when he raced up the stairs and went head first down the toilet bowl. Another was when he decided to walk around the work surface when I was cooking and I had a gas hob then - I had the window slightly open and it blew the flames on him as he walked past and I had to snuff his smouldering fur out with a damp tea towel. He used to sleep behind the propped up pillows of the bed during part of the day or in the bath but his favourite place of all to curl up in was the washing up bowl in the sink

What a tinker he was.

I have seen the morning sun
rise upon my window panes.
I have seen the glory of the sun
as sets at end of day.
I have seen rebirth in the
beginnings of each new day.
I have heard the sounds cast
in my mind of words unsaid.

On a clear day, I can see
forever in the skies above me.
I have seen the love as soft
eyes gazed gently into mine,
I have known love on four legs,
more so than ever I have two.
I have had the pleasure of time
that stands still in my mind.

I have shared the silver of
the teardrops as they fell,
I have heard the words of
others in much pain.
There have been things I
know left unsaid as time heals,
But I have sensed those
teardrops fall like rain.

It is known the pain of words
written for this heart that hurts,
And words fill the gap that time
has not yet felt the need to erase,
You too have words that you too
have yet to speak or write,
About the great hurt of the tears
that you wet upon your face.

So let we who care share your
pain with you my friends,
Let not ever the glory of the
rainbows shine be for naught.
One day more shall we rise
to smell the beauty of the rose.
And once more in the web of
great love shall we be caught.

Yes you have known the glory of
the sunrise as it burst upon the land,
And seen it slowly drift across the
meadow gently kissed with dew.
You have felt its warming rays
spread and warm your very soul,
And you have known the love
of four legs, just as you have two.

You know this life as it stands
is not without its grief,
So Live on this life that you
know you must fulfill,
Until that day that you are
called upon to go,
And you will see the sunlight
shine again upon your sill.

Always in my heart, always in my thoughts
Your sweet smile warms my dreams
I feel you near in the dawn of a new day
I see your eyes shinning back in the eyes of a friend
I feel your touch in a warm hug
You come to me in many ways
In the sun that warms my soul
In the rain that brings heart peace
In my dreams you run free
I see you strong and always mine
My Boy you are my joy, my love
I watch the clouds flow by and see your image
I see you dancing on the clouds
Two hearts bonded are never apart
Love never ending always true and strong
Till the day of reunion I give you my heart
To hold and know you are always part of it
My boy, my joy always and forever

I will wait for you, until the
time comes when we will be
together again. I will meet
you at the rainbow's end
where the sky touches
the earth.

Untill then I watch over you.
I feel the love you have for
me in each tear you shed.
I hear your voice speaking
to me from your heart.

When you question if we will
be reunited, know it shall be.
We are meant to be as one

Untill the colours of the rainbow
beckon for you to follow. I take
each step by your side. Even
though you can't see me I am

Let healing touch your heart
let the silver tears wash the
pain away. For I am just
around the corner where your
heart dwells.

Remember reunion will be
at the Rainbow's end.

I will always need you, your gentle kindness,
The wisdom you share from life’s journey,
The light you shine to banish the darkness,
How you find what is special in me.

I will always hold to your strong hands
And know they gently cradle my heart
As you guide me through life’s wilderness
Sharing beauty she alone can impart

I will always listen to the words you share
And see the vision I have seen in your eyes
That the world can become better if we care
And with love we can see a better place arise

I will always feel you here by my side
Guiding me and helping me to stand
There is no obstacle we cannot take in stride
Or distance that cannot be spanned

And even now in time’s shifting sands
I know you will ever be there for me
Ever as close as a heartbeat will we stand
No farther than a whisper for all the time to be

So if you walk on ahead to the stardust fields
I will know that you still watch over me
So that you can share the truths that path yields
Where we will all share in eternity

I reach across the distance, back in my memories
I smile for all the joy that we have shared, you and I
I miss you loving presence, so small yet so large
I whisper your name through silver tears of goodbye

But you still reach out and touch my hurting heart
You whisper of your love to the longing in my soul
You show me the part of your heart you left behind
In place of mine that went with you so I may be whole

Light a candle in Oscar's memory, for a sick, abused, or special needs furbaby, or perhaps just someone who needs a prayer and a candle lit.
