Tears in Heaven

Brandy's Lorelie

Lorelie was adopted from the Humane Society of
Indianapolis in February of 2005. We just had
Spotty at the time and really wanted another cat.
I got on the Humane Society's website to see
what they had up for adoption. I remember
going to the third page and seeing a cat named
Lorelie. I read more about her and decided that
she would fit our family perfectly. I got Mom to
see her, and without hesitation we went up to
the Humane Society to get her. We looked in
every cage they had and we couldn't find her.
We asked someone about her and they luckily
still had her. They had her put in the back
because they had too many cats. They went
back and got her for us. We wasted no time
saying we wanted her. We spent two hours at
the Humane Society waiting in line and filling
out the adoption papers. Soon, we were on
our way home with Lorelie. We had her for
almost three wonderful years. She was such
a wonderful cat. She was the type of cat that
wasn't a lap cat, but did love in her own way.

She would climb up in the chair beside me when
I ate at the table. She would lie down by my feet
when I would get on the computer. Mom would let
her out so would be happy. She was a stray before
we got her so she had a habit of always wanting
to get out. She would go sit by the door and cry
and paw to get out. Within a couple of hours, she
would be back. Mom would let her in when she
"knocked" on the door or looked in the window.
She would come in and go to my room and lie on
my bed. She would sleep almost all day and then
come out and go eat. She would meow really loud
when she was hungry. She was just a perfect cat,
so full of love and just the sweetest little furbaby.
On January 12, she went missing (I thought). Mom
let her out that morning and the local stray cat
was sitting on the porch. Lorelie chased the stray
next door. A couple of hours later, Mom saw
Lorelie sitting on the pool watching the stray that
was only a couple of feet away from her. Mom
left the window and went over to the couch to
take a nap. Lorelie never came back and that was
just not like her. We had snow coming later that
evening and usually she was back in time before
it snowed. We got a couple inches of snow and she
still hadn't showed up. She had been missing for
three days. On January 15, Ginger took Mom to
the back yard and climbed up on the pool. Mom
looked over and saw Lorelie frozen in the pool.
Mom got a knife and chipped her out of the ice.
Mom picked my brother and me up from school
that day and I asked if she had found Lorelie. She
said yes. I got excited, but then she told where
she found her. I burst into tears. I'm the one that
felt very guilty. I got home and asked Mom if I
could see her. I grabbed me a shovel and dug her
grave in the frozen ground. That was just one of
the hardest things I've ever gone through. I wish
she was still here with me and my mom. I love
and miss her very much. I know she has all my
furangels and everyone else's furangels beside
her, playing with her.
She will be waiting for me and my mom.
Hugs,
Brandy
