The Giftbox - Beauty

She sat gazing into the crystal waters of the Reflecting Pond lost deep in thought. The Silver One joined her. No need to ask her who she was ~ he had known as soon as he had seen her. She was the new angel who would be this year's gift for the winter holidays. He sat silently beside her allowing her to notice him when she was done with her deep musings.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to ignore you," she said when she realized The Silver One was there. "I just am not sure how I am to ever complete my task. There is so much pain in the world, so many that are so badly hurt." She looked back into the crystal waters.

The Silver One laid down beside the little angel, "You will do just fine. If you were not able to do the task you would not have been chosen. Listen to the Wind That Whispers and follow your heart, and you will do just fine."

Others drifted to and from the Reflecting Pond. Some like Oliver and Toby were new here and desperately needed to comfort their hurting families. Some like Fluffy and Muffin had been here a while, although they never tired of coming to the Reflecting Pond to watch over their love ones.

As The Silver One and the little angel watched another angel arrived in the meadow near the pond. The Silver One rose to his feet and a small crowd seemed to just appear around him. "Who is the new one?" "Is this a cat like me?" "Are they a gerbil like me that I can be friends with?" "Please, is the new one a bunny?" The Silver One chuckled, "Why don't we just go see?"

As they approached, the angel gently laid her precious charge down in the soft grass, gave them an extra measure of their grieving family's love, smiled at The Silver One, then vanished. The new one began to wake, confused by her new surroundings.

"Where am I please? I want to go home," she asked in a soft plea. The Silver One walked to her through the excited crowd, "You are home, Little One. This is Rainbow Bridge where we wait for our love ones." He never tired of greeting the new ones, of showing them the special pond where they could watch over their love ones, and telling them how to comfort and leave signs for their love ones. You have arrived on a special day. This is the Holiday Eve, the evening we all put our own special gifts in the Gift Box for our love ones.”

The rest began to become impatient, not upset - but excited - each wanting to explain to her. The Silver One chuckled and guided her to the Reflecting Pond. She heard her family and ran forward. "Show her how to visit, to leave signs, and to help comfort them," he prompted the rest, knowing they were only waiting for him to tell them. "And don't forget to explain to her about the Gift Box as that is this eve."

There were so many new ones this year. The Silver One's heart hurt for their pain, but he knew the Gift Box would help them and their love ones. It seemed such a small box when it appeared at the pond each year, yet there was always room for every holiday gift. On the other side it was never seen, but each gift found its way to where it needed to be.

Slowly, the sun set in the rainbow colored sky and the stars came out and pinned up the deep midnight blue velvet sky looking like perfect diamonds. Every being at the Rainbow Bridge gathered around the Reflecting Pond. There were many new ones this year: Toby, Oliver, Skylar, Shadow, Whitey, Frisket, Bella, Nikki, Squeak, Brewster, Daphne, Lacey, Molly, Binkley, Joey, James, Samantha, Rusty, KosePus, Buddy, Lua, and so many others. Some, like the Donnelly angels who had crossed into heaven with their dad Jeff when he was called home, were no longer here. And as always there were some who were never with their special someone on earth who would meet them when they were called home.

The Holiday Star rose high in the rich blue sky. Then it appeared on the edge of the pond - The Gift Box. It was beautiful beyond description and glowed with love, And as each Bridge Angel approached the Gift Box adding their Holiday Wishes for their love ones it glowed ever more richly. The wishes were all individual, yet each was perfect, from Kato and Nitro's wishes for peace of heart and strength for their love ones, to Little Bit and Tiny's wishes for their daddy for happiness and for him to realize how special he is with each furbaby he saves, to Spankee's wish for peace and understanding for her family, and Chum-Chum's wish for acceptance for his family.

After the Bridge Angels had all added their wishes the angels came up one by one and each added their Holiday Wishes for mankind. At length there was only one left - the little angel..

The Little Angel walked to the Gift Box and knelt speaking softly. Her voice was like a crystal bell, delicately whispering - yet everyone could hear every word as though she was speaking to them. "There is so much pain and sadness in the world, but if they only look there is also so much worth seeing. When the clouds gather it darkens the sky and rains, but without the rain there would be no rainbows, no flowers, no life. Though it is not always clear, there is always a reason." She closed her eyes, bowed her head, and was gone.

Liz and Bat Ears looked at the angel beside them, "What happened? Where did she go?" The angel smiled, "She is our gift to mankind little ones. She is Beauty. She will help mankind to see there is still so much good in the world, so much worth living for."
